Artist Bio

Terry Whalen and Hot Powder, formally known as The Terry Whalen Band are a 2012 and 2015 Music NB Award winner for Blues Recording.

They are also three-time ECMA nominees for Blues Recording of the Year(2009, 2010 and 2012). They deliver a heart-thumping blend of blues and rock described by Jeff Liberty of JL Artists as “classic ZZTop on steroids!!! To date, Terry and the guys have released 7 studio albums, the most recent of which is titled Terry Whalen and Friends, featuring appearances by Matt Andersen, Garrett Mason, Steve Marriner, John Campbelljohn, Travis Furlong, Ross Neilsen and Bobby Cameron (released October 2021).

Terry is available with Hot Powder, depending on the venue and event with a full band as a trio, or added keys, sax and additional guitarist, up to a six-piece band. Terry is available as a duo for smaller venues and as a solo artist in an intimate setting. Terry is equally comfortable delivering an evening of familiar toe-tapping covers or a catalogue of his own blend of dirty rockin’ blues.

To date, the band has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with blues legends, such as Matt Andersen, MonkeyJunk, Delbert McClinton, Jonny Lang, Robert Cray, The John Oates Band and the amazing James Cotton along with Jimmy DLane, the son of the great Jimmy Rogers and Shirley King the daughter of BBKing. Terry Whalen and Hot Powder have been compared to early ZZ Top, but what you will hear is a one-of-a-kind sound from front manTerry Whalen and a band that delivers an original blend of blues and rock that will leave you wanting more. Whether it is the full band or Terry Whalen Squared or Terry as a solo show, the message is the same – heartfelt rock and blues.
